Chinese New Year!

This week we have been learning about Chinese New Year. An evil spirit visited us but we scared him away with red and gold and loud noises. We have set up our own Chinese restaurant, the children are writing each others orders down and then cooking for them. In ‘Talk for Writing’ we have read ‘The Magic Paintbrush’ about Shen and the Emperor. We have written messages to go in fortune cookies, we have retold the story with characters and using our own magic paintbrush we have found amazing things.

In maths we have been adding two numbers together to find a total (addition) and taking a group away from another to find a total (subtraction). We had a visitor on Tuesday, ‘Dave’ came in to visit us, he showed how we can draw a range of things using lines. We drew an elephant, cat and many more. One of our pictures started with a box and we built it into a house with a car outside, a gate and flowers in our garden.

Richmond Academy is a primary school in Sheerness where our children are excited and motivated to engage in rich and challenging experiences, both inside and outside of their classroom. We have high ambitions for all of our children, with staff planning carefully to meet each child’s needs and stage of development, ensuring our children get off to a great start in their education. Child initiated play based learning is at the heart of our practice. We carefully plan for opportunities, activities and experiences that develop all of our children into independent, resilient and confident learners.
