This week we have been reading the story ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. It is also mental health awareness week so we have thought about how the penguin might feel when he is on his own, the children have described him as ‘lonely’ and ‘sad.’ We have linked this to how we have felt sad in the past or if we have lost anything. The children have made some great connections about losing a hat or bookbag.
In maths we have been looking for 3D shapes, we have found what 2D shapes they are made from and are beginning to use language such as ‘cube’ and ‘sphere.’ We are still enjoying our ‘Art Attack’ topic, we have been learning about Claude Monet making our own ‘water pond’ pictures by using masking tape to make a bridge, painting around it then removing the masking tape.
We have also learnt about a range of artists with different disabilities, for example being blind or having no arms. The children have painted with blindfolds on as well as painting with the brush in their mouth and not using their hands. They thoroughly enjoyed his experience. For mental health awareness we wore our clothes inside out.
